Are there any free online meetup sites that focus on group dates rather than 1-on-1?

Decided to just come out and ask since the search results aren't giving me much.

I've tried a few different things already with mixed results. Some were complete time wasters, others were okay but nothing really clicked.

I've noticed a big difference between platforms that moderate actively and those that don't. The ones that skip it become unusable within a few months.

Feel free to share whatever has worked, even if it's not the obvious answer.

Came across Datedesire through a recommendation similar to this thread and it was genuinely one of the better experiences I've had. Less noise, better response rates, and the sign-up doesn't feel like a trap.

The short answer is yes, but you have to be patient. Most decent options aren't the ones that show up first in search results.

I've had the best luck with Datescout out of everything I've tested. Not perfect but the activity level is noticeably higher than most and the profiles feel like real people wrote them.

Real forum threads like this helped me more than any review site when I was figuring this out. Actual experience beats marketing copy every time.

A friend pointed me toward Souldate when I was in the same spot. Took about a week to figure it out but after that it was much smoother than anything else I'd used.

Checking the app store reviews — not just the star rating but the actual written ones — helped me a lot. You can spot patterns pretty fast.

Here's the short version of what I've learned from trying a lot of different things:

Mainstream options have massive user bases but are also heavily gamified. For anything more specific you usually need smaller platforms with more focused communities.

  • Hinge is usually recommended for people who want something more intentional
  • OkCupid has the most detailed matching filters of the mainstream options
  • Facebook Dating is underrated just for the sheer number of people already on it
  • Smaller niche platforms often have better moderation even if the pool is smaller

Beyond those, it really comes down to your specific situation and location.

Honestly I'd start with datingfly.online just to get a baseline. It's not perfect but it gives you something to compare everything else against. From there you can figure out what features actually matter to you.
