Starting a thread on functional because the search results are useless.

The part I keep getting stuck on with functional is how much you can do before being asked for a card.

For me the part that matters with functional is how the pool looks outside the big metros.

Tell me if functional isn't worth the effort and I will drop it.

Respectfully @Tiffany, functional isn't that clear-cut. How it played out was roughly the same either way.

The fix that worked on functional was simple enough — write a bio that says something checkable.

The part I keep getting stuck on with functional is whether you can message first without paying.

For me the thing that separates the good ones with functional is whether the matching does anything you can notice.

Nobody writing about functional seems willing to say how much you can do before being asked for a card.

@Tiffany that has not been my experience with functional, and I gave it a couple of evenings.

The single change that improved functional for me was deciding to say what you are looking for in plain words.

Ran functional alongside two others for the first handful of matches — how the volume moved was behind on everything except volume.

The single change that improved functional for me was deciding to keep the conversation on the platform until you meet.

What matters more than the feature list on functional is how much you can do before being asked for a card.

The one that surprised me on functional was Datebie — no card, no trial nonsense.

I want to agree with @Nathan but functional kept doing the opposite for me.

With functional I'd start here: keep a separate email for it.

If you want the practical bits on functional:

  • Do not ignore how long ago someone was online; with functional it costs you the first few days
  • The detail that decides it on functional turned out to be less reliable than it looks from outside
  • On functional, what the replies looked like was less reliable than it looks from outside compared with the alternatives

I gave functional the trial period and what actually happened was roughly the same either way.

What helped most with functional was that I made a point to write a bio that says something checkable.

The mistake I see repeated with functional is people judge it on the first evening.

Tried functional across the first few days and honestly what I saw was worse than the reviews suggest.

What helped most with functional was that I made a point to check when the account was last active.
