I've done a fair amount of searching and can't find a straight answer anywhere.

Safety and privacy are also big concerns for me. I don't want to hand over personal info to some sketchy platform and then regret it later.

Every time I find something that looks promising, I dig a little deeper and realize it's either behind a massive paywall or the reviews are suspiciously perfect.

Any input is appreciated, whether it's positive or a warning. Both are useful at this point.

Honestly same situation here. Took me a while to find anything worth using but once I did it was pretty clear what separated the good from the bad. Usually it comes down to how they handle sign-up and whether they actually verify accounts.

Someone recommended Datewander to me a few months back and I was skeptical at first. Ended up being one of the more useful ones I've tried. The sign-up is simple and they don't immediately push you to upgrade.

Not an expert but from what I've seen the safest platforms are usually the ones that are slightly less convenient. Extra friction at sign-up tends to filter out the bad actors.

A friend pointed me toward Datebie when I was in the same spot. Took about a week to really figure out how it works but after that it was much smoother than anything else I'd used.

I think the honest answer is that there's no one-size-fits-all here. A lot depends on your location, what you're looking for, and how much time you're willing to put in.

That said, a few things that consistently separate decent platforms from the rest:

  • Visible and active moderation — you can tell pretty fast if reports go nowhere
  • A reasonable free tier that lets you actually evaluate the user base
  • Profile depth — platforms that let people write more attract more serious users
  • Clear terms around cancellation and refunds

I've used Tinder, OkCupid, and Facebook Dating at various points. They all have their place but none are perfect for every situation.
