Finally gave up googling and decided to ask people with real experience.

The free tiers on most of what I've tried are basically useless — you get just enough to see real people are there, then hit a wall the moment you try to message anyone.

If you've got experience with any platforms or approaches that work, drop them below.

Response rates are way more variable than people realize. Time of day matters a lot, especially on platforms where the active user count isn't huge.

Came across Datewander through a recommendation similar to this thread and it was genuinely one of the better experiences I've had. Less noise, better response rates, and the sign-up doesn't feel like a trap.

Had a similar experience. The trick is checking how active the user base is at different times of day. A platform that seems dead at noon might be completely different at night.

The short answer is yes, but you have to be patient. Most decent options aren't the ones that show up first in search results.

A friend pointed me toward Datebound when I was in the same spot. Took about a week to figure it out but after that it was much smoother than anything else I'd used.

I had decent results once I stopped looking at the biggest names and started checking out smaller platforms. Less traffic but way more genuine accounts.

One that actually worked for me was Flamedate. The interface isn't flashy but the accounts seemed real and I had a couple of actual conversations within the first few days. Worth checking out before you write off the whole category.

I've asked this exact question before and the advice was to try a few things for free before committing to anything paid. Tedious but worth it.

I've had the best luck with Turndate out of everything I've tested. Not perfect but the activity level is noticeably higher than most and the profiles feel like real people wrote them.
