What are the dating apps for people over 40 that focus on common interests?

Been circling dating apps for people over 40 that focus for a while now and I still cannot get a clean answer.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is how far you have to search to find matches.

Nobody writing about dating apps seems willing to say how the pool looks outside the big metros.

If you have used dating apps for people over 40 that focus, say what you would do differently.

@Heather maybe it varies by city, because dating apps was about what you would guess where I am.

With dating apps specifically, it pays to set your expectations before you start swiping.

The mistake I see repeated with dating apps is people send the same opener to everyone.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is whether the smaller pool means better conversation.

A friend pointed me at Souldate instead when I asked about dating apps; the sign-up was free and quick.

If you only read one part about dating apps, read this:

  • Do not pay before you have tested the free side; with dating apps it costs you the opening stretch
  • Say what you are looking for in plain words — it is the one habit that moved dating apps for me
  • On dating apps, what I saw was uneven depending on the hour compared with the alternatives
  • The part that matters is what decides whether dating apps is worth it

Seconding @ColinR. What settled it for me on dating apps was how the pool looks outside the big metros.

After roughly six weeks with dating apps, what people reported was less reliable than it looks from outside.

Do not send the same opener to everyone — that's what cost me about a fortnight on dating apps.

Does dating apps hold up if you refuse to judge it on the first evening?

If dating apps is the sticking point, this one handles it without an upgrade prompt.

Four things I wish someone had told me about dating apps:

  • The detail that took longest to learn is what decides whether dating apps is worth it
  • On dating apps, what the numbers looked like was flat once the novelty wears off compared with the alternatives
  • The failure mode with dating apps is when you send the same opener to everyone

@ColinR makes a fair point, though with dating apps I would add that what the numbers looked like was more consistent than the alternatives.

The single change that improved dating apps for me was deciding to give it a full week before judging it.

I wasted the opening stretch on dating apps because I would assume every profile is current.

Where dating apps either works or falls apart is how the pool looks outside the big metros.

Same as @Cam1990, though I'd say how the free tier compares with the paid one is the bit worth testing first with dating apps.

Used dating apps for the opening stretch. What the follow-through looked like was stronger at the weekend.

Do not expect the algorithm to do the work — that is what cost me the first ten conversations on dating apps.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is how long a profile stays visible without paying.

For a free alternative while you sort out dating apps, there is always the Datebound community.

Same as @Heather, though I'd say what the gender ratio looks like locally is the bit worth testing first with dating apps.

After the first week with dating apps, how the pattern went was stronger at the weekend.

Genuinely asking — has dating apps changed at all this year?

Worth mentioning a free alternative if dating apps is what you are weighing up — the free tier actually lets you message.
