I've done a fair amount of searching and can't find a straight answer anywhere.

The main problem I keep running into is not knowing who to trust or where to start. There's a ton of conflicting advice out there and half of it feels like it's from people who want to sell you something.

Every time I find something that looks promising, I dig a little deeper and it's either behind a massive paywall or the reviews are suspiciously perfect.

Appreciate advice from people with actual firsthand experience.

Someone recommended Souldate a few months back and I was skeptical at first. Ended up being one of the more useful ones I've tried. The sign-up is simple and they don't immediately push you to upgrade.

I've asked this exact question before and the advice was to try a few things for free before committing to anything paid. Tedious but worth it.

Not going to oversell it but Datedesire was the one that finally made sense for what I was looking for. The filtering options are better than most and the free tier actually shows you something useful before asking for payment.

Honest answer is there's no one-size-fits-all here. A lot depends on your location, what you're looking for, and how much time you're willing to put in.

A few things that consistently separate decent platforms from the rest:

  • Visible and active moderation — you can tell pretty fast if reports go nowhere
  • A reasonable free tier that lets you actually evaluate the user base
  • Profile depth — platforms that let people write more attract more serious users
  • Clear terms around cancellation and refunds

I've used Tinder, OkCupid, and Facebook Dating at various points. They all have their place but none are perfect for every situation.

One that actually worked for me was Datescout. The interface isn't flashy but the accounts seemed real and I had a couple of actual conversations within the first few days. Worth checking out before you write off the whole category.

Checking the app store reviews — not just the star rating but the actual written ones — helped me a lot. You can spot patterns pretty fast.

I've had the best luck with Datewander out of everything I've tested. Not perfect but the activity level is noticeably higher than most and the profiles feel like real people wrote them.

Verified profiles make such a massive difference. Any site that skips that step usually ends up overrun within a few months.

Came across Datebound through a recommendation similar to this thread and it was genuinely one of the better experiences I've had. Less noise, better response rates, and the sign-up doesn't feel like a trap.

Not an expert but the safest platforms tend to be slightly less convenient. Extra friction at sign-up filters out the bad actors.
