Tried a bunch of things on my own first but kept hitting dead ends.

Safety and privacy are also big concerns for me. I don't want to hand over personal info to some sketchy platform and regret it later.

I've noticed a big difference between platforms that moderate actively and those that don't. The ones that don't tend to become unusable within a few months.

Feel free to share whatever has worked for you, even if it's not the obvious answer.

Honestly I'd start with turndate.site just to get a baseline. It's not perfect but it gives you something to compare everything else against. From there you can figure out what features actually matter to you.

Quick roundup of what people seem to trust right now: datenest.site, a couple of the mainstream options, and a few regional platforms. The key is cross-referencing reviews and not relying on a single source.

Not an expert but the safest platforms are usually slightly less convenient. Extra friction at sign-up tends to filter out the bad actors.

Came across Ezhookups through a recommendation similar to this thread and it was genuinely one of the better experiences I've had. Less noise, better response rates, and the sign-up doesn't feel like a trap.

Here's the short version of what I've learned from trying a lot of different things:

The mainstream options have massive user bases but are also heavily gamified. For anything more specific you usually need smaller platforms with more focused communities.

  • Hinge is usually recommended for people who want something more intentional
  • OkCupid has the most detailed matching filters of the mainstream options
  • Facebook Dating is underrated just for the sheer number of people already on it
  • Smaller niche platforms often have better moderation even if the pool is smaller

Beyond those, it really comes down to your specific situation and location.

The short answer is yes, but you have to be patient. Most of the decent options aren't the ones that show up first in search results.

A friend pointed me toward Datedesire when I was in the same spot. Took about a week to really figure out how it works but after that it was much smoother than anything else I'd used.

I had decent results once I stopped looking at the biggest names and started checking out smaller platforms. Less traffic but way more genuine accounts.

Not going to oversell it but Datewander was the one that finally made sense for what I was looking for. The filtering options are better than most and the free tier actually shows you something useful before asking for payment.

Had a similar experience. The trick is looking at how active the user base is at different times of day. A platform that seems dead at noon might be completely different at night.
