Curious where people land on dating apps for casual dating that aren't full these days.

If anyone has tested dating apps properly, I want to know how many of the profiles are still active.

The part I keep getting stuck on with dating apps is how quickly fake accounts reappear.

Tell me if dating apps for casual dating that aren't full isn't worth the effort and I will drop it.

Ran dating apps alongside two others for the first week — what I ended up with was uneven depending on the hour.

Before writing dating apps off, try this: set your expectations before you start swiping.

The mistake I see repeated with dating apps is people judge it on the first evening.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is how people handle discretion in a small city.

For a free alternative while you sort out dating apps, there is always have a look at Souldate.

If you only read one part about dating apps, read this:

  • Keep a separate email for it — it is the one habit that moved dating apps for me
  • Worth checking on dating apps: whether the verified badge means anything
  • If dating apps is your only option, at least check when the account was last active

I gave dating apps the first ten conversations and what the pool looked like was more consistent than the alternatives.

If you take one thing from this thread on dating apps: use a photo that shows your face clearly.

Nobody writing about dating apps seems willing to say how people handle discretion in a small city.

Tried over on Datescout alongside it while working out dating apps — different pool, same free messaging.

@Megan that hasn't been my experience with dating apps, and I gave it a full weekend.

With dating apps specifically, it pays to use a photo that shows your face clearly.

The trap with dating apps is that it is easy to assume every profile is current.

Worth mentioning over on Ezhookups if dating apps is what you are weighing up — the free tier actually lets you message.

Same as @Megan, though I would say what the gender ratio looks like locally is the bit worth testing first with dating apps.

Tried dating apps across the opening stretch and honestly how the pattern went was less reliable than it looks from outside.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is what people actually mean by casual here.

If anyone has tested dating apps properly, I want to know how long a profile stays visible without paying.

Nobody writing about dating apps seems willing to say what the daily limits feel like in use.

Currently splitting my time between here and the Datelink community for exactly this dating apps reason.

My working notes on dating apps, for what they are worth:

  • If dating apps is your only option, at least use a photo that shows your face clearly
  • Use a photo that shows your face clearly — it is the one habit that moved dating apps for me
  • The part that matters on dating apps turned out to be stronger at the weekend

Going to push back on @Jessica Lane here — dating apps did not behave that way at all in my case.

The single change that improved dating apps for me was deciding to give it a full week before judging it.

What matters more than the feature list on dating apps is how long a profile stays visible without paying.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is what the daily limits feel like in use.

What I actually want to know about dating apps is whether the block tool really blocks.

Currently splitting my time between here and Luvdate for exactly this dating apps reason.

Rough notes from using dating apps:

  • Keep the conversation on the platform until you meet — on dating apps that mattered more than anything else
  • Do not judge it on the first evening; with dating apps it costs you the first month
  • Worth checking on dating apps: how people handle discretion in a small city
  • If dating apps is your only option, at least give it a full week before judging it
