I've done a fair amount of searching and can't find a straight answer anywhere.

I've noticed a big difference between platforms that moderate actively and those that don't. The ones that skip it become unusable within a few months.

Would really appreciate any honest takes from people who've actually tried different options.

Honestly I'd start with datebie.online just to get a baseline. It's not perfect but it gives you something to compare everything else against. From there you can figure out what features actually matter to you.

Ran into this exact problem when I first started looking around. Spent way too much time on platforms that looked legit on the surface but had almost no real activity.

Things I look for now before trying a new platform:

  • Is there any way to see activity without paying — even partial browsing?
  • What does the cancellation process look like? One click or buried in menus?
  • Are there any recent user reviews from the last 3-6 months?
  • Does the app have location-based matching or just one big national pool?

That screening process saves a lot of time and frustration upfront.

One that actually worked for me was Datebound. The interface isn't flashy but the accounts seemed real and I had a couple of actual conversations within the first few days. Worth checking out before you write off the whole category.

Response rates are way more variable than people realize. Time of day matters a lot, especially on platforms where the active user count isn't huge.

Someone recommended Turndate a few months back and I was skeptical at first. Ended up being one of the more useful ones I've tried. The sign-up is simple and they don't immediately push you to upgrade.

Came across Souldate through a recommendation similar to this thread and it was genuinely one of the better experiences I've had. Less noise, better response rates, and the sign-up doesn't feel like a trap.
